Last Thursday afternoon, 28 September 2017, the ultra talented 32-year-old Olivier Rousteing took out the Palais Garnier, which houses the opera and tranformed it into a memorable scene of his personal fairytale.

“I’m so happy to be here today, and I want to celebrate the freedom and the guy I am today,” a flustered Rousteing enthused after the show.

If his collection related to the motivational message he wanted to convey, it was in the sheer fashion fandom of the many designer references he jumbled up – more specifically the old greats, from the obvious nods to Pierre Balmain to the air of Coco Chanel, which has been hanging in the air at Balmain for some time now.

“There was a lot of nostalgia and French history,” Rousteing said.”

Olivier Rousteing was born September 13, 1985 in Bordeaux, France . He is a talented French fashion designer and the creative director of Balmain. Rousteing was adopted by a couple at age of one. He grew up in Bordeaux and moved to Paris to study at ESMOD (Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode). In 2003, Rousteing graduated and began his career as a designer at Roberto Cavalli and went on to become the head of the label’s women’s division.

Since his arrival, menswear now accounts for 40 percent of Balmain′s revenue. While the company did not release figures, it was estimated that Balmain′s revenue increased 15 to 20 percent between 2012 and 2015. Rousteing opened a Balmain store in London, Balmain′s stand-alone boutique outside of Paris. A New York City store opened in SoHo in April 2016. Other stores are in the planning stage.

With the help with A-List celebrity friends like Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, EMFAM and various models, including those from Victoria’s Secret, Rousteing helped Balmain become the first French label to pass the million-follower plateau on Instagram.
