It was with great sorrow that we heard the news yesterday afternoon of the passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, born Prince of Greece and Denmark.. Yesterday the world lost a great man. Great-Britain lost a patriot, the Commonwealth lost a servent, the royal family lost its husband and father and Greece lost a great Prince.

Steadfast and loyal he served the Crown with selfless devotion and leaves behind an amazing legacy. He will be missed.

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully yesterday morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. He was born in Mon Repos Palace in Corfu Greece, on 10 June 1921, the only son and fifth and final child of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

A member of the House of Glücksburg, the ruling house of Denmark, he was a prince of both Greece and Denmark by virtue of his patrilineal descent from George I of Greece and Christian IX of Denmark, and he was from birth in the line of succession to both thrones.

Philip’s four elder sisters were Margarita, Theodora, Cecilie, and Sophie. He was baptised in the Greek Orthodox rite at St. George’s Church in the Old Fortress in Corfu.

Unfortunately  his family was exiled from the country when he was eighteen months old. After being educated in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, aged 18. From July 1939, he began corresponding with the thirteen-year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934. During the Second World War he served with distinction in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets.

After the war, Philip was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish titles and styles, became a naturalised British subject, and adopted his maternal grandparents’ surname Mountbatten. He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. Just before the wedding, he was granted the style His Royal Highness and created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich by King George VI. Philip left active military service when Elizabeth became queen in 1952, having reached the rank of commander, and was made a British prince in 1957.

Philip had four children with Elizabeth: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. Through a British Order in Council issued in 1960, descendants of the couple not bearing royal styles and titles can use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, which has also been used by some members of the royal family who do hold titles, such as Anne, Andrew and Edward.

A sports enthusiast, Philip helped develop the equestrian event of carriage driving. He was a patron, president or member of over 780 organisations, and he served as chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a self-improvement program for young people aged 14 to 24.

He was the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the longest-lived male member of the British royal family. He retired from his royal duties on 2 August 2017, aged 96, having completed 22,219 solo engagements and 5,493 speeches since 1952. Philip died on 9 April 2021, two months before his 100th birthday.

With deep sadness, but with the joy of reflecting upon a life lived through outstanding dedication and devotion to his country, family and, of course, to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, my family and I remember HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark in Mon Repos, our home on the Island of Corfu, on 10th June 1921, the only son of Prince Andrew (Andreas) and Princess Alice of Greece.

Uncle Philip, as he was known to us, has been a very loved member of the extended Greek family and of course a strong connection for us to Britain where my brother Philippos was born and given his name by my parents. As I reflect on his life, I feel immensely proud of him: of his bravery in World War II and of the way he overcame the challenges of exile in his formative early life. He was by any conceivable standard, the most remarkable servant to the Sovereign and to the United Kingdom, his adopted country, and to the Commonwealth. He was armed with the determination, compassion, vision and steadfast loyalty which were at the core of his ability to support the Queen in their united stability amidst the shifting tides of the past century and beyond. At the coronation he swore to be his wife’s “liege man of life and limb”, which he carried out unfalteringly, unquestioningly.

He will be remembered by over 700 organisations as President or Patron and for the Duke of Edinburgh Award that since 1956 has had 8million young participants. He took great pleasure in his relationship with the Armed forces and the life of the men and women serving them.
Prince Philip did not like to dwell on things: he was a doer, with great vigour and energy. It has been said that the life of the dead is placed into the memory of the living and this will be compellingly true of the memories of our time spent with him – the hilarity, the stories, the seemingly limitless interests – will always be treasured.

Our thoughts and prayers are today with HM Queen Elizabeth II and her own family, for whom the sense of loss will be very hard to bear; and yet I know that the joy of reflecting upon his extraordinary life will be a source of immense comfort and pride.

Prince Philip was the longest serving royal consort in British history, having been by the Queen’s side for more than 70 years. He was just months away from celebrating his 100th birthday in June.

In a list of advice to young people published through his Duke of Edinburgh scheme last year, Prince Philip advised that we should “dress for ourselves and not others”.

What a style…!

His own taste leant towards the timeless, and relied heavily on British greats: Turnbull & Asser for shirts, ties, and pocket squares, and tailoring from his long-term collaborator John Kent, of Kent, Haste & Lachter. Throughout his decades in service, the Duke remained a meticulous dresser in every sense. “The Duke of Edinburgh had that understated, English gentleman style that is completely timeless, embodying all the divine traits of Savile Row,” says Manolo Blahnik. “Whether he was in a suit or in uniform, he looked impeccable.”

In fact, the Duke of Edinburgh’s style was always centred around a sense of appropriateness, and for more than 70 years he had to negotiate the hard compromise of dressing for both himself and for duty as the Queen’s consort. “When he stood very discreetly behind the Queen, he was always very formal, wearing beautiful shirts and ties that complemented his look,” says Edward Sexton, the Savile Row tailor who has made suits for everyone from John Lennon to Harry Styles. “He was there to complement what the Queen wore; it was about the colour of her dress and hat, so his hands were tied in certain respects, except when he was out at the weekend and could be very flamboyant.”

The initial details of Prince Philip’s funeral have been announced, including that it will take place on Saturday 17th April and be televised. The late royal “passed away peacefully” at Windsor Castle at the age of 99, the royal family confirmed yesterday.

Palace officials have confirmed that Philip will have a royal ceremonial funeral – rather than a grand State funeral – but that it will be a much more intimate affair than was originally planned; partly due to his personal wishes for it to be simple, but also due to Covid health and safety restrictions. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that they will stick to current pandemic guidelines, which only permits 30 guests. Members of the public have been asked not to attempt to attend.

Prince William has written a heartfelt tribute to Prince Philip, who died peacefully at Windsor Castle on Friday. He was 99 years old.

He described his “grandpa” as an “extraordinary man”, and praised his “infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour”.
The Duke of Cambridge shared a message via the official Kensington Royal social media accounts, accompanied by a sweet photograph of Prince Philip with William’s eldest child, Prince George.

“I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days,” he wrote. “I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!”

My heart goes out to Her Majesty the Queen who lost yesterday the love of her life after almost 74 years together.

Let’s try to enjoy it the full…because time lapses so fast and never comes back…!

There’s been so  many years that I practice mediation,  self-helping seminars and books and I’m a very big fan of positive thinking and creative visualisation .

The following piece of advice is something that recently read and I found it really amazing  and helpful for everybody. I  would really like to share it with you and I hope it may be inspiring.

          1.Spending too little time with the right people. – Sooner or later, you just want to be around the people who make you smile.  So today, spend time with those who help you love yourself more.  And remember, the people you take for granted today may be the only ones you need tomorrow.  Never be too busy to make time for those who matter most (even if it’s just a quick phone call or a text).

         2.Not making your loved ones smile more often. – The most beautiful thing is to see a person you love smile, and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it.

      3.Not saying what you need to say. – Speak up.  Don’t hide your thoughts and feelings, especially when you can make a difference.  Be brave.  Say what needs to be said.  If you care about someone, tell them.  Hearts are sometimes broken by the words we leave unspoken.

      4.Constantly comparing yourself to everyone else. – Don’t compare your progress in life with that of others.  We all need our own time to travel our own distance.  It’s perfectly OK to be different.  Today, the only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.  Prove yourself to yourself, not others.

     5.Ignoring your intuition for too long. – Sometimes your mind needs more time to accept what your heart already knows.  Breathe.  Be a witness, not a judge.  Listen to your intuition.

      6.Not taking action on meaningful goals. – Instead of complaining about your circumstances, get busy creating new ones.  You either suffer the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.  Most of the time, the only difference between who you are and who you want to be, is what you do.  (Read Getting Things Done.)

     7.Letting others talk you out of your dreams. – Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?  Stop living for other people and their opinions.  Be true to YOU.

     8.Vivid memories of wasted time. – There is good reason why you should wake each morning and mindfully consider what and who you will give your day to.  Because unlike other things in life – love, money, respect, good health, hope, opportunities, and many more – time is the one thing you can never get back once it’s gone.

    9.Collecting more excuses than you can count. – If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way.  If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.

    10.Waiting, and waiting, and waiting until you’re ready. – Sometimes life seems hard, but we often make it harder than it is.  All you ever have to decide is what to do next. It really is this simple.  You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.  Just do the best you can until you know better.  Once you know better, do better.

     11.Not putting in enough effort. – In life you are either a passenger or a pilot, it’s your choice.  If you want something, work for it.  Do what it takes, not what is easy.  It will hurt.  It will take time.  It will require dedication.  It will require willpower.  You will need to make healthy decisions.  It requires sacrifice.  You will need to push your body to its max.  There will be temptation.  But, I promise you, when you reach your goal, it will be worth it.

     12.Letting solvable problems stop you. – Not everything that’s faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it’s faced.  Problems are not stop signs, they’re guidelines.  If you want it, work for it.  It’s that simple.  Strength doesn’t come from what you can do.  It comes from overcoming the things you couldn’t.

     13.Not taking on enough risk. – Wouldn’t you rather have a life of “OH WELLs” than a life of “WHAT IFs”?  Do what you can while you can.  Don’t be afraid to move out of your comfort zone.  Some of my best life experiences and opportunities came to me only after I dared to lose.

     14.Settling for less than you are capable of. – Remember, growth and change may be painful sometimes, but nothing in life is as painful as staying stuck where you don’t belong.

    15.Putting your own needs and happiness on the back burner. – All jokes aside, your life only comes around once.  This is IT.  So do what makes you happy and be with whoever makes you laugh, often.

    16.Letting impatience govern your decisions and actions. – Patience is not about waiting; it’s the ability to keep a good attitude while working hard for what you believe in.

    17.Giving up too soon. – Forget how many times you’ve broken down.  It’s about how you stand up and move on.  You may have to go through the worst, to get to the best.  Good things take time.  Stay patient and stay positive.  Everything is going to come together; maybe not immediately, but eventually.

    18.Letting someone walk all over you, ad infinitum. – Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.  And walk away from anyone who continually robs you of peace and joy.  Life is too short to waste your time with people who abuse and bully you.

    19.Not helping others when you were able. – If you have a lot, give your wealth.  If you have a little, give your heart.  Just give what you can.  No one has ever become poor by giving.

    20.Ignoring your roots and those who have supported you. – Never forget where you’ve been.  Never lose sight of where you’re going.  And never take for granted the people who travel the journey with you.

    21.Not appreciating what you have when you have it. – We often forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but of deeply appreciating what we do have.  No, you won’t always get exactly what you want.  But remember this: There are lots of people who will never have what you have right now.

    22.Letting your health go. – Your body is the only place you will truly ever live.  If you’re lucky enough to have a body that’s in good health, be wise enough to keep it that way.

    23.Years of struggling to find happiness outside yourself. – Happiness is not determined by what’s happening around you, but rather what’s happening inside you.  Too many people depend on others, or outside sources, to gain happiness, but the truth is it always comes from within.

    24.Letting too many plans blind you from the beauty of now. – When life is good, enjoy it.  Don’t go looking for something better.  Happiness never comes to those who don’t appreciate what they have.  You must be willing to loosen your grip on the life you have planned so you can enjoy the life that is waiting for you now.

    25.Being too narrow-minded to see the opportunities given to you. – Sometimes life doesn’t give you what you WANT because you NEED something else.  And what you need often comes when you’re not looking for it.

    26.The limitations you put on yourself. – It’s often our own thinking that hurts us.  There’s no reason to imprison yourself.  Don’t think outside the box.  Think like there is no box.

    27.Letting negativity get the best of you. – Remember, true strength is when you have so much to cry and complain about, but you prefer to smile and appreciate your life instead.

    28.Never admitting and growing beyond your mistakes. – You can learn great things from your mistakes when you aren’t busy denying them.

     29.Not accepting responsibility for life changes you need to make. – If you’ve been asking the same questions for a long time, yet are still stuck, it’s probably not that you haven’t been given the answers, but that you don’t like the answers you were given.  Remember, it takes a great deal of courage to admit that something needs to change, and a lot more courage still, to accept the responsibility for making the change happen.

     30.Seeking too much validation from others. – You are GOOD enough, SMART enough, FINE enough, and STRONG enough.  You don’t need other people to validate you; you’re already valuable.  You are YOU and that’s the beginning and the end – no apologies, no regrets.

     31.Impressing the wrong people. – Not everyone will appreciate what you do for them.  You have to figure out who’s worth your attention and who’s just taking advantage of you.  Spend more time with those who make you smile and less time with those who you constantly feel pressured to impress.

     32.Time spent on drama and needless arguments. – Life is too short to argue and fight.  Count your blessings, value the people who matter and move on from the drama with your head held high.

      33.Letting a grudge hurt your happiness. – Let it go.  Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.  Holding one is like letting unwanted company live rent free in your head.

      34.Endlessly worrying about things. – Move on.  Stop letting it bother you.  If a problem can be solved, there’s nothing to worry about.  If it can’t be solved, worrying is useless.

      35.Forcing what’s not meant to be. – Never force anything.  Do your best, then let it be.  If it’s meant to be, it will be.  Don’t hold yourself down with things you can’t control.  Sometimes you have to stop worrying, wondering, and doubting.  Have faith that things will work out, maybe not how you planned, but just how it’s meant to be.

      36.Getting stuck in the trap of consumerism. – Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t need, to impress folks they don’t even know.  Don’t be one of them.  (Read The Total Money Makeover.)

      37.Never traveling when you had the chance. – Once a year, go somewhere you’ve never been before.

       38. Not choosing to laugh at life more often. – Life is way better when you’re laughing.  Being positive in a negative situation is not naive, it’s a sign of leadership and strength.

      39. Resisting change instead of rolling with it. – You’re not the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or a week ago.  You’re always growing.  Experiences don’t stop.  That’s life.

      40. Talking the talk, but never walking the walk. – When it’s all said and done, be sure you haven’t said more than you’ve done.  In the end, actions always speak louder than words.  So work hard in silence, and let your success be your noise.

Firstly who is Emily ?

She’s an American girl , probably in her  22-ish. She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss. She’s a smart cookie and really innovative – and this is not her first rodeo doing what she does. She’s gone to school for this, and she’s completed internships. However, she’s not the person who travelled during college. She was really, really focused on her jobs in the Midwest, and I don’t think she’s been abroad. Basically, she’s always kind of been a big fish in a small pond – and then suddenly in Paris she’s a fish out of water. If she had gone to a different company in Chicago, she would have been taken seriously – but in Paris, she’s not prepared for the cultural shift that she experiences at Savoir. Her only real experience of Europe is through movies and TV.”

The windmills Kato Myloi are situated southwest of Mykonos Town – Hora, next to the sea, between scenic Alefkadra and the quarter of Niohori, and impress every visitor with their snow-white magnificence, built in a row, looking to the sea.

Today, seven have been preserved out of ten (once there were more than twenty on the island), which existed here until the first decades of the 20th century and used to grind with the unstoppable power of the northern wind the local wheat. It is the perfect place to start breathing the unique oxygen of the windy island combined with the stunning sea view.

The Windmills of Mykonos, early processing units, decisively contributed between the 17th and the 19th century to the economic prosperity of the island, which, being a necessary station for the passing sailboats, supplied them with rusk. After  the 1st World War, through the progress of technology they lost their financial value and were finally marked as one of the most popular monuments of the Cyclades islands and, their picture as a trademark travelled all around the world.

Overlooking Little Venice…

Little Venice – Where the most western part of the town meets the sea is the area known as “Little Venice”. Here the buildings have been constructed right on the sea”s edge with their balconies overhanging the water. During the 16th and 17th century pirating was common and it is believed this area was used for the necessary quick loading and unloading of goods.

Mykonos Chora is definitely one of the nicest and most charming towns of the Greek islands, with endless small streets, shops, brandname stores , churches , terraces and  sugar cubed ,whitewashed houses.

A place to wonder around for days and every time find something unexpected. Because of the street layout (intended to confuse pirates) it”s also the perfect place to lose your way.

It has two harbours where you can just sit and have a drink or something to eat, while enjoying the views and the people that walk by, and another harbour where the ferries depart. Some ferries however dock at Tourlos, which is a half an hour walk away from Mykonos town itself.

Behind the harbour front you will find endless (and very clean!) shopping streets with high end boutiques ,  souvenirs ,  jewellery stores and numerous art galleries.

I never skip to visit Linea Piu, the small Chanel  kingdom of the island…, where there is a big variety of beloved pieces.

Town  hotels and guesthouses,  and many, many  restaurants. Most ticket offices for the ferries are on the main boulevard.

Mykonos Chora is quite large for a Cycladic town. All the houses are painted white and have brightly coloured shutters in front of the windows, mostly blue, green and red. The village goes steeply up the hill with roads and also with stairs on some places.

The narrow streets close to the harbour buzz with activity. They are filled with attractive small shops, Bougainville trees in purple bloom, small cafes and chapels and that usually end up at a square with a terraced restaurant and a church, or at the harbour front with its colourful fishing boats, the row of windmills and a pelican or two.

Dressed up people mingle with the ones that don”t care so much  and if there is not too much wind (because the “meltemi” can blow from day to day) they all end up in the harbour where the majority of the big restaurants are.

Saint George’s Chapel in the center of Matogianni, is one my favorite points of  the island. Although at night time is too crowded, a visit during the day is simply gorgeous…! I adore the place…!

Some of the nice, pleasant and cheaper restaurants can be found in the small streets behind the harbour front though.

The island was quiet and peaceful until it was discovered by shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who brought Jackie Kennedy to the island. Since then, owning a house on the island has been considered a status symbol by wealthy Athenians.

Mykonos is also the place that Shirley Valentine came to and “found herself”. It is also home for Petros the pelican. He was one of a flock which flew to Mykonos from the mainland in the 1950″s.

Unlike most island ports, the main town is built not on a hillside but spread out over a flat plain. The harbour area is split between the fishing quay, with its small boats beached on the sand, and the main port where the ferries pull in and tarmac and concrete make up the view.

Most traffic is banned from the waterfront and new building is confined to the outskirts so the only way to explore is on foot, getting lost in the maze of streets.

On a once-fortified spit of land stands Panagia Paraportiani,

probably the most photographed church in Greece. It is, in fact a cluster of chapels fused into what was once described as “an organic masterpiece of accidental architecture” and there are also the trademark quartet of windmills on the hillside above.

Actually this is my favorite church in Greece  and I never skip to pass by , despite the fact that I have never managed to get  inside , because it is always locked…

Take a (possibly choppy) boat ride to the fascinating archaeological site on Delos islet, the ancient Aegean’s main religious centre. Back in Mýkonos Town, the Archaeological Museum’s ancient pottery collection may not sound wildly exciting at first, but this one really grows on you.

I like Ornos Beach with Kuzina Restaurant and the latest Pasaji,

but don’t just flop on the beach afterwards – take the plunge off of the island’s more sheltered south coast at Paradise or Kalafáti coves’ legal scuba-dive sites. If you would like something alternative,  Agios Sostis Beach in the north of Mykonos is  one of the nicest and most relaxed beaches of the island. The beach is named after a nearby church which stands above it. The place there  is pretty uncultivated, that’s why  it’s mostly quiet.

Principote at Panormos is also very famous , nice location , protected from the winds , in a delightfully relaxed and elegant environment.

Don’t anyone miss Scorpios  , it is surely  the best place to Be on the island …!

Nested between the bays of Kavos and Paraga, the  organic stretch of coastline is a welcoming place where horizons of blue mix with yellows, golds and pinks born of the generous Cycladic sun.

It is an amazing place,  really atmospheric in bohemian style. Gorgeous food & Cocktails are served .The venue is  ideal for sunset time & night parties. Don’t skip a Sunday afternoon party..! A super must of Mykonos! I highly recommend it..!

The Glamorous Kate met the Chic Letizia, Queen of Spain last night at Buckingham Palace at  a State Banquet in honor of the King and the Queen of Spain.
Queen Letizia look amazing on her red gown with her fleur de keys Tiara but The Duchess of Cambridge was stunning as always in her Marchesa gown and the Lover’s Knot tiara, the favourite tiara of her mother’s in law,  Princess Diana.

Last night’s looks, worn for the state banquet in honour of Spain’s king and queen, couldn’t have been more different.

and the Duchess of Cambridge, the Lover’s Knot tiara, a diamond and pearl design, which was once owned by Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Legendary Cambridge Lover’s Knot  tiara , was commissioned from Garrard in 1913/1914 by everyone’s favorite magpie, Queen Mary. She modeled it off of a tiara owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, the Duchess of Cambridge. It wasn’t a unique design to begin with; several others exist that are quite similar. The piece passed from Princess Augusta to her daughter (also named Augusta), who became Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Swinging pearls hang from 19 diamond arches capped with lover’s knots in this tiara. The piece was composed of existing jewels Queen Mary had in her collection: the dismantled Some Ladies of England Tiara plus the original pearl uprights from the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara and pearls off of a couple brooches belonging to Mary which were ultimately returned. Originally, the design included upright pearls on top of the arches, but Mary had them removed eventually.

The Queen loaned the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara to Diana, Princess of Wales as a wedding present in 1981. Kate first wore it at the 2015 Diplomatic Reception.
The diamond and pearl earrings the Duchess wore were a wedding gift from Collingwood Jewellers to Diana and they are part of Diana’s private collection.
The Ruby and Diamond Floral Bandeau Necklace was one of the Queen’s wedding gifts from her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth; the Queen has not worn the piece since the early 1980s

But, while the Duchess’s regalia stopped at a diamond and ruby necklace, which once belonged to the Queen Mother, Queen Letizia attached a traditional blue-and-white sash to her gown, complete with badges of honour.

As the Duchess let her guest take centre stage in a heavily-beaded, off-the-shoulder burgundy gown by Spanish brand Loewe, she showcased one of her most transformative formal looks to date.

Her plunging Marchesa gown in muted, scalloped guipure lace and tulle was a departure from the conservative necklines she usually favours for evening events, and all the more striking thanks to the ruby boucheron bandeau that trailed down her décolletage.

The Duchess, and stylist Natasha Archer, instigated a relationship with the brand earlier this year, when she wore a full-skirted red Marchesa Notte (the brand’s concession line) to London’s opening night of 42nd Street. Last night’s custom-made design aligned with the brand’s bridal looks, for which they are highly regarded.

As the Duchess took the opportunity to add a new designer to her catalogue of trusted formalwear brands, Queen Letizia played the diplomatic card in Loewe, which is currently headed up by Ireland’s award-winning J.W. Anderson. If the banquet was a sign of the Duchess throwing out the rulebook and instigating a healthy dose of competitive state dressing, it will be interesting to see how the royal visit unfolds for the final two days. Jackie Kennedy is often associated with homes. The Georgetown townhouse where she and her husband once lived, the Hyannis Port compound where she and her young family often vacationed, and of course, the White House—which she extensively redecorated. But even before the Camelot years, the former Jacqueline Bouvier was well accustomed to gracious and gorgeous interiors.

When Jackie’s mother married Hugh D. Auchincloss, a Standard Oil heir, she and her daughters moved into his McLean, Virginia, home.

The Georgian-style mansion, known as Merrywood, featured nine bedrooms as well as views of the Potomac River and nearby steep hills. The estate, which was first built in 1919, is 23,000 square feet, with indoor and outdoor pools and 11 full bathrooms. And now, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, the home is currently for sale through Sotheby’s. But beyond its storied past it’s an architectural gem. With its original moldings still intact, and a garden designed by famed 19th- and 20th-century landscape architect Beatrix Ferrand, it’s as breathtaking as a historic home.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis‘s childhood home is located in the affluent suburb of McLean, Va., the hefty price tag makes the property, called Merrywood, the most expensive in the region.

The estate, which is currently owned by American Online co-founder Steve Case, was home to the former First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier, in the 1940s. The seven-acre property and 23,000 square-foot, Georgian-style mansion sit on the banks of the Potomac River outside of Washington, D.C.

If sold at or near its asking price, the property would set another record, according to Mark C. Lowham of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, who is managing the listing. The same property set the record for most expensive property in the area back in 2005, when Case bought it for $24.5 million.

The sprawling property includes a number of luxurious amenities including formal gardens, housing for the property’s staff, a lighted tennis court, a swimming pool, an indoor lap pool, an indoor fitness center and indoor parking for vehicles. The mansion has nine bedrooms and 11.5 bathrooms, and an elevator services all four floors of the house. Just the master suite includes two separate dressing rooms, a private study, a fireplace and a gym.

The entire Merrywood property is enclosed in gates and fences and also has a security system.

“I always love it so at Merrywood — so peaceful…with the river and those great steep hills,” Kennedy wrote as a teenager about the property in 1944, according to Town & Country.

With a reported $3 million fortune, she is one of the wealthiest people on the planet, however, Winfrey insists that financial gain has never been a driving motivator for her, merely an incidental bonus. With “The Oprah Effect” being a legitimate term to describe Winfrey’s monumental influence on public opinion and consumer habits (Tory Burch credits her entire career to an appearance on Oprah’s show), clearly this is a woman who knows what she’s talking about.

Patricia Altschul born April 16, 1941 is an American socialite, art collector, and personality on the reality television series, Southern Charm. She is the widow of Arthur G. Altschul, a former Goldman Sachs partner and prominent art collector and philanthropist. Mrs. Altschul has been a director or trustee of several nonprofit organizations including the New York Historical Society and Historic Hudson Valley (the Rockefeller Family properties). In 2012 Altschul was given a Woman of the Year award by the Police Athletic League of New York City. In 2013 she received a Carolopolis Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston for her renovation of the historic Isaac Jenkins Mikell House in Charleston, SC.

The historic 1854 Isaac Jenkins Mikell House is said to be “one of the finest pre-Civil War residences” in Charleston, according to the Preservation Society.

On “Southern Charm” Patricia plays “the resident madcap grande dame” according to a profile in Architectural Digest.”Pat quickly became a fan favorite last year and has even drawn the affection of celebrities like Lady Gaga who claimed ‘that looking at Patricia is like looking in a mirror'”, commented TV critic Christine Lo in her blog.

Patricia Altschul, the resident grand dame on Bravo’s Southern Charm, is a force of nature. Based in the idyllic city of Charleston, the reality show follows eight cast members as they navigate their way through the trials and tribulations of living life in the Holy City. With galas and polo matches to attend, confessions of unrequited love, and hatchets that seem as though they’ll never be buried, Altschul serves as a much-needed den mother of sorts, dolling out advice and the dry one-liners to the younger set in the series.

Having been to the Met Gala more than once, married three times, and lived up and down the East Coast, she certainly has the life experience to draw upon.

1. Don’t forget to put your face on!
Today, women run around in their sweatsuits. Their hair is uncombed, and they look just ghastly. When you look like you’ve just been shot out of a cannon you can’t be attractive to the opposite sex, or any sex for that matter.

2. Makeup is important, but you need a light touch.
You don’t want to look like the Whore of Babylon. In case you don’t know who she is, the Whore of Babylon was “the mother of harlots and abominations of the Earth” in the Bible’s Book of Revelation. Apparently, she was a flashy, overdone sort, with tacky makeup and loud clothes—not someone you want to emulate.

3. Plastic surgery certainly isn’t off the table, but only make subtle improvements.
Some plastic surgery can be a boon, but you don’t want to look as if you’ve been through a wind tunnel, where everything is stretched so tight you’re begging for slack. Cosmetic surgery and injections should not make a person look like a reject from the cast of La Cage aux Folles.

4. Nothing beats a million-dollar smile.
If you are making an investment in your appearance, put your money where your mouth is. Clean, white teeth will always make you look pretty and young. It is so important to take care of your teeth. Explore straightening, bonding, whitening . . . anything you can do for a better smile.

5. There’s something to be said for keeping the same hairstyle.
Truman Capote said that if a woman maintains the same hairstyle over the years, she will never age. This philosophy applies to hair color, too. If you were a brunette, stay with your natural color as long as you can remember it! Too many women drift into being blonde or redhead as they get older, when their skin tone is screaming for a more authentic shade. If you’re not a natural blonde, think twice about adding too many highlights; they can strip your hair and make it dry and brittle.

6. Curate your wardrobe.
Don’t buy trendy clothes. Instead of having an excess of lesser “options,” add one really good piece to your collection every year.

7. Refuse to wear ripped jeans.
They make a woman look as if she has been dragged through a thorny hedge backward.

8. Get a good tailor.
Most people don’t know this but a good tailor can make a garment look as if it were made for you. Simple alterations—a slight pad to offset uneven shoulders, a hem adjustment, a seam taken in or let out—can make all the difference in the world. Bulges and pooches are never a good look, so buy the correct size and then let a tailor customize your clothing to minimize your flaws.

9. Don’t schlep.
Evening bags should always be small—a little clutch, for example—holding lipstick, money, keys, and if you can squeeze it in, a cell phone. Just the essentials.

10. Know the news.
Always stay up to speed on current events. I believe in Southern belles, not dumb belles, wherever they’re from!
