Great enthusiasm for the brand — and founder Thomas Burberry’s Victorian pioneering face , Riccardo Tisci. He looked back to that era, whipping white lace into long, slim dresses or lavish, rippling collars; working corset details into tailored jackets; stretching a trench straight down so that it swept the floor, and creating hand-sketched, painted and collaged animal prints — including a monkey — in a wink to Charles Darwin.

“First we are going to build the identity, and then we’ll develop it. The next steps could be homeware. We’ve already launched perfume and soap, and we even made the music speakers. With time, we’ve matured. We’ve become much more fashion, and we can be lifestyle as well,” said Tisci, adding that he wants Burberry to be about more than a trench and a check.

To Eat: L’oscar Hotel

Lucky for us, one of London’s most exciting new hotels opened its doors only a stone’s throw from The Strand earlier this year. L’oscar (named after dedicated follower of fashion Oscar Wilde) is situated in a Grade II-listed former Baptist church in the heart of Holborn. The boutique hotel is the first in the capital from décorateur Jacques Garcia (of New York’s NoMad, Hôtel Costes in Paris, and La Mamounia in Marrakech) and has been characteristically, impressively restored. The octagon-shaped Baptist Grill, headed up by Michelin-starred chef Tony Fleming, is the place to while away a long lunch or dinner, while Café L’oscar (illuminated by a glowing onyx bar and signature glass birds) is perfect to pop in for a bite, a drink, or a late-night dessert. And the rooms promise a sumptuous night’s sleep.

Bloomsbury has been abuzz with good openings this year. Neptune, located in Russell Square’s The Principal hotel, is already a favourite local haunt, despite only a few months in existence. The modern seafood-focused restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But there’s also a drinks bar with an intriguing cocktail list, an oyster bar, and a menu designed by brilliant gastronomy duo Brett Redman and Margaret Crow (who were previously of popular Hackney hangout The Richmond). Drink Nepotisms late into the night.

New wellness Glow Bar , captivated attention and a flurry of bookings from the Vogueeditors on launch last month. There are superfood replenishments aplenty at the Glow Bar cafe and its full range of supplements is available to stock up on in the shop. But most notable are the private, infrared sauna pods. 45 minutes in-between shows? Sweat it out here and leave feeling rejuvenated and looking glowing. What’s more, its Mortimer Street locale means that you can combine with a visit to DryBy for a manicured spruce up.

Just in time for fashion month, Matches Fashion pulled a trump card in townhouse form. Unveiling its beautifully refurbished bricks-and-mortar in Carlos Place, on the corner of Mayfair’s Mount Street, the brand has uncovered an innovative vision of luxury shopping. Browse the rails yourself (it’s currently home to a covetable Prada takeover), have an appointment with an expert Matches stylist, but – best of all – drop items into your wish list at home or in the office, then 90 minutes later pop in to try your picks. Ideal for those last-minute fashion week buys. There’s even a cafe, hosting a rotation of chefs (currently a Milanese patisserie), to refuel from shopping fatigue.

The fashion world descends on Soho this week, as London Fashion Week makes Brewer Street its headquarters once again. But the area is famous for much more than fashion – here are the places to drink, dine and stay while you’re in the capital’s entertainment district.

Yauatcha

The Soho branch of this contemporary Chinese chain is renowned for its all-day dim-sum (try the scallop and edamame crystal dumplings), exotic teas and delicate east-meets-west desserts (think zingy citrus tart infused with Kalamanzi).

Blacklock

This secret spot on Great Windmill Street, hidden in a former basement brothel, serves two things – succulent chops and great cocktails. The menu is simple (chops, chops, chops) and the décor minimalist, but the plates are piled high and the food is delicious.

It is unsurprising that this Wonderland-style hotel is located in bright and buzzing Soho. With a boldly-coloured, open-plan restaurant and chic cocktail bar –

both boasting tasty and inventive menus – not to mention a bowling alley, theatre, library and roof garden, there really is no need to venture from the Ham Yard sanctuary.

This beautiful boutique Georgian townhouse is part of the exclusive Soho House members group, but both the hotel and restaurant are open to non-members.

With cosy and opulent but unpretentious interiors and an eclectic traditional menu spanning breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, it is the perfect place to escape the Soho bustle.

Urban Tea Rooms

Artisan café by day, cocktail bar by night, the Urban Tea Rooms offers a cosy spot to unwind just minutes away from Oxford Street, plus the canopied terrace makes a surprisingly peaceful place for people watching.

A quaint French bistro that serves sumptuous sharing plates – from crispy frogs legs to braised lamb shoulder – and an unsurprisingly extensive wine list in an intimate Art Nouveau-style dining room adorned with trinkets.

The Gatsby-esque Bob Bob Ricard is unapologetically lavish – from its Russian-inspired menu to the elegant booths and, perhaps the most talked-about attribute, the “push for champagne” button.

Lina Stores

A Soho stalwart, Lina Stores has been serving pasta, sandwiches, antipasti and more – all so fresh that they will transport you straight from the London streets to an Italian piazza – in their family-run deli since the Forties. This season they are going big on LFW, providing fashion packed lunches behind their bespoke window display created by Shrimps’ designer Hannah Weiland.

Curzon Cinema

The Curzon in Soho is known for its comprehensive arthouse programme – though the coffee house and cosy bar shouldn’t go without mention – yet it remains unpretentious in character and warm in atmosphere.

Live music and a late licence seven nights a week make this one of Soho’s most popular hang outs. Note: it’s worth arriving early evening to avoid the queue.

Many a romantic date can be spent at the candlelit tables in Andrew Edmunds’s 18th century townhouse, where the menus scrawled on blackboards, paper tablecloths and traditional interior hark back to “old Soho”.

A treasure trove of coffee houses and tea rooms inhabit Soho and some, Soho Grind included, turn into drinking establishments after dark.
