The first-ever Cadillac XT5 will arrive as a 2017 model year vehicle after production begins in the U.S. and China in spring 2016. But first, Cadillac will let drivers get a closer look when the XT5 premieres at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and the 2015 Dubai Motor Show this month.

As a completely new model, the XT5 sits on a unique chassis and structure that allows the crossover to weigh 278 pounds less than the outgoing SRX.

Despite being seven inches longer, the XT5 is also 100 lbs less than the Audi Q5 and more than 650 lbs lighter than the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Also compared to the SRX it replaces, the XT5 offers 3.2 inches more rear-seat legroom.

For the U.S. market, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 will be powered by a new 3.6-liter V6 engine that debuted earlier this year on the ATS and CTS models as well as being used in the new CT6.

The powerplant features 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, while Cadillac’s new start/stop technology helps enhance fuel economy and reduce emissions. For the Chinese market, Cadillac will offer a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Standard for the luxury crossover will be an eight-speed automatic transmission that also debuts Electronic Precision Shift, the first electronically controlled transmission shifter for a Cadillac.

The technology helps reduce noise and vibration.

“The all-new XT5 not only enters the most popular segment in the worldwide luxury auto market, it is the first of four new crossovers from Cadillac,” said Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen.

“It’s pivotal to our ongoing growth, which is why we’ve developed XT5 from the inside out to provide customers more space, more technology, more luxury and more efficiency.”

Even back in the 1920s the luxury cabriolets from Stuttgart combined the freedom of open-top motoring with the comfort and safety of a Mercedes-Benz Saloon.

From the start of post-war production the top models from Mercedes-Benz were also available in the particularly exclusive variant as a cabriolet. These included the 170 S (W 136) from 1949, the 220 (W 187) from 1951 and the 300 S (W 188) from 1952.

After the “Ponton” cabriolets 220 S (W 180) and 220 SE (W 128) built from 1956 to 1960, in 1961 the 220 SE Cabriolet of the model series W 111 was launched, a particularly elegant, open-top four-seater, whose design is still considered timeless to this day.

In this ten-year production period Mercedes-Benz offered five different models in these model series: the 220 SE, 250 SE, 300 SE (W 112), 280 SE and, as a late top model, the eight-cylinder 280 SE 3.5 – in total 7013 units of these five cabriolets were manufactured in Sindelfingen.

For the time being there was no open-top luxury-segment car in the Mercedes-Benz model range to follow this generation: rather, it is the new SL from model series 107 which cultivated the tradition of open-top motoring in the Stuttgart brand’s cars – as a two-seater.

The cabriolets from Mercedes-Benz are today amongst the most sought-after classic cars – and the prices have developed accordingly. Examples of this are the cabriolets from model series 111 whose values are cited by the renowned American Hagerty Insurance’s price guide.

In its estimation a 280 SE 3.5 from the final year of construction, 1971, in condition 2 today has a value of around 290,000 US$ – ten years ago the figure was some 115,000 US$. But that is by no means the pinnacle: for instance, a specimen of this model in excellent condition was auctioned last August by RM Auctions for 429,000 US$.

The last six-cylinder 280 SE model (1969) in the same condition is valued today by Hagerty at approx. 75,000 US$ – about 45,000 US$ ten years ago. Early 220 SE models are around the same level, with a current value of some 84,000 US$.

You’re surely thinking the same thing as you look at Porsche’s latest concept: An all-electric sports sedan aimed squarely at dethroning the Tesla Model S as the king of battery-powered cool.

The Mission E concept, unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show today, combines stunning lines with superlative range and performance in a package that should make Elon Musk very nervous. Porsche says the car has a range of 310 miles and will blitz from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds. The Tesla Model S is the only electric car with those kinds of numbers: Its range-topping P90D model has a range of nearly 300 miles, and hits 60 in 2.8 seconds.

What’s more, Porsche says the Mission E battery can reach 80 percent charge in just 15 minutes, which beats the Model S. But the Tesla does have one significant advantage over the Porsche: It actually exists.

The German sports car company has announced its all-electric Mission E sports car. The concept vehicle, which will be on sale within five years, boasts a 600 horsepower motor, a range of more than 300 miles, and a recharging time of under 15 minutes.

Unveiled at the ongoing Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany, the sleek Mission E is an all-wheel-drive, all-wheel-steering battery-powered street car.

After many years in development, and one year of active prototyping, the concept car moves one step closer to reality, said Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche’s global head of research and development.

“We were asked many times, ‘Why don’t you do a pure battery car?'” Hatz said by telephone from Frankfurst, hours before the unveiling. “We said it would happen when we can really deliver performance, reliability, and driving range. And now the time is right.”

Hatz said the concept is “very close” to getting approval to move to the production phase, but declined to identify a likely model year or a price — except to say it would be competitively priced for its target buyer.

“It will be competitive,” Hatz said. “The Porsche is always worth its price.”

Analysts were excited by the news, and gave credit to a certain California electric car company for inspiring Porsche to pursue battery electric performance.

“The short answer can be summed up in one word — Tesla,” said Kelley Blue Book analyst Karl Brauer. “Telsa and its CEO, Elon Musk, have demonstrated to all other manufacturers the appeal of a 300-mile-range, high-performance electric car. It’s a wealthy and not very huge market, but there is a group of people who will spend more than $100,000 on a car with that kind of performance and that kind of range.”

The proposed performance specifications are impressive, Porsche said. The four-door, four-passenger Mission E vehicle will be capable of zero-to-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds, and will get to 120 miles per hour in under 12 seconds.

Using the auto industry’s first 800-volt electrical system, the Mission be will be able to charge to 80% of total battery capacity in 15 minutes — when, that is, a system of 800-volt charging stations are built.

It will also feature some dramatically futuristic electronics. An eye-tracking system, able to sense what part of the dashboard the driver is looking at, will highlight that part of the dash and expand options within specific gauges without driver input.

Hatz insisted the car is not intended to fight for customers with California-based Tesla Motors, whose Model S all-electric sedan typically sells for about $100,000.

“We don’t do a car because Telsa has done a Model S,” he said. “We have our own plans. The time was not right before now to bring a pure battery car onto the market. But now the time is right.”

And the new vehicle will be, above all things, a Porsche, said Detlev von Platen, CEO of Porsche Cars North America — a point underscored by the company’s simultaneous unveiling of an all-new 911 featuring improved chassis, turbocharging and fuel economy.

“With this car, we are not forgetting our icon, and our center of gravity,” Von Platen said. “This car allows us to maintain the credibility of Porsche.”

Bentley is attending this year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power in Cheshire (12-14 June) with an extensive array of cars. Prominent models from the brand’s history and current line-up will be on hand, with a pair of Continental GTs in action on the famous track.

With 635 PS (626 bhp) and 528 PS (521 bhp) respectively, the Bentley Continental GT Speed and GT V8 S Grand Tourers will set a blistering pace around Cholmondeley’s narrow, twisting circuit.

The Continental GT Speed coupe is Bentley’s fastest production car ever. Its Crewe-built, twin-turbo W12 engine produces a mighty 820Nm, which helps propel the car to its top speed of 331 km/h (206 mph).

The origins of Bentley’s celebrated story will be on display at the event, held on the grounds of the Cholmondeley estate. The EXP2 is the oldest Bentley in existence. Built in 1920, the 3-litre 4-cylinder car has a top speed of 80mph, so it’s unsurprising that it was a successful racer in its day – claiming the brand’s first ever victory.

The famous Bentley Blower will join its forebear at Cholmondeley. Featuring the legendary supercharger installation developed by Amherst Villiers, the Blower is arguably the most famous model from Bentley’s illustrious past.

This year is the 85th anniversary of that most famous Bentley Boy adventure – the Blue Train race. The car that (probably) accomplished the feat will also be at the event.

In 1930 Captain Woolf Barnato, Chairman of Bentley Motors, was staying in Cannes when he accepted a wager that not only could he beat the Calais-Mediterranée Express (or ‘Blue Train’) back to Calais, but that he could be at his club in London before the train even reached the English Channel. He was, and the remarkable victory has resonated with Bentley enthusiasts ever since.

A panel of judges awarded the prize to Bentley design director Luc Donerwolke last  Saturday. The judges believed that the EXP10 Speed 6 was the finest concept car or prototype on display at the show and the best celebration of the future of the automobile industry.

Bentley’s EXP 10 Speed 6 concept shows the future direction of luxury and performance using the finest materials and advanced hybrid technology – a powerful, exquisite and individual concept.

Discussing the award, Luc Donkerwolke said “EXP10 Speed 6 is the most talked-about concept car of recent times and was the star of the show in Geneva earlier this year. Since then it has visited New York and Shanghai gauging reaction from dealers, customers and the media. This highly coveted award is further proof of the success of our quintessentially British design.”

The Bentley EXP10 Speed 6 has already been given the green light for production. Following overwhelming positive feedback from customers and dealers alike it is a logical next step in Bentley’s master plan to become a more dynamic brand.

From an exterior styling standpoint, the production-spec Bentley EXP10 Speed 6 will also adopt a number of changes. Last month, Bentley and Bugatti executive Wolfgang Durheimer revealed that the headlights will be modified and that a more steeply raked front grille will be installed.

Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix at the Monaco street circuit in Monte-Carlo on May 24, 2015 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. Princess Charlene was more Beautiful than ever… She was like a Greek Goddess in her white outfit and of course she was the Queen of the event…!

The 2015 Monaco Grand Prix, formally known as the Grand Prix de Monaco 2015, was a Formula Onemotor race that was held on 24 May 2015 at the Circuit de Monaco, a street circuit that runs through the principality of Monaco. It was the sixty-second running of the race as a World Championship event, and seventy-third running overall.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton entered the race with a twenty point lead over teammate and defending race winner Nico Rosberg in the Drivers’ Championship, with Mercedes having a seventy point lead over Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship. Nico Rosberg took his third consecutive win at Monaco, second win of the season, and the tenth of his career from Sebastian Vettel whilst pole sitter Lewis Hamilton finished in third.

Ahead of the race weekend, world champion Lewis Hamilton was at the centre of attention, after Mercedes announced they had extended the contract with him for three additional years, keeping him at the team until the end of the 2018 season.

Circuit changes

Revisions to the Tabac corner at the harbour section of the race track meant that the drivers now entered the turn slightly earlier, shortening the track by three meters compared to previous years, and making the corner slightly tighter and slower. The corner had seen a race-stopping accident involving Pastor Maldonadoand Max Chilton in 2013, leading to the changes being made. This resulted in the circuit being officially classified as a new layout.

The barrier on the right of the swimming pool chicane was moved back, with new kerbs, to allow for a better view of the corner. Much of the track was resurfaced before the event.

The race schedule for the weekend was different in Monaco compared to the other races on the calendar. In order to be able to attend sponsor meetings and other social events, the two first practice session were set for Thursday instead of Friday.

At the start of the race Hamilton, Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel maintained their grid positions into the first corner, but Daniil Kvyat managed to overtake team-mate  Daniel Ricciardo for fourth. Over the following laps Hamilton pulled out a lead over Rosberg, leading every lap until a late-race crash between Max Verstappen andRomain Grosjean on lap 64 initiated a “Virtual Safety Car” condition which was then quickly replaced by the normal safety car. Having had a lead in excess of 20 seconds beforehand, Hamilton was pitted under the safety car apparently with the intention of returning him to the track ahead of his pursuers. However Mercedes had miscalculated the gap and he emerged marginally behind both Rosberg and Vettel who had stayed out under the safety car. With the safety car coming into the pits with 8 laps to go, Hamilton was ultimately unable to get past Vettel and Nico Rosberg crossed the line to win the race, with Vettel and Hamilton completing the podium.  Hamilton displayed his frustration at this turn of events by stopping out on the track during the slow down lap before finally returning to Parc fermé where he deliberately shunted the third place marker board.

Monaco Grand Prix is the one race of the year that every driver dreams of winning. Like the Indy 500 or Le Mans, it stands alone, almost distinct from the sport from which it was born. A combination of precision driving, technical excellence and sheer bravery is required to win in Monte Carlo, facets which highlight the differences between the great and the good in Formula One.

The Armco barrier-lined circuit leaves no margin for error, demanding more concentration that any other Formula One track. Cars run with maximum downforce and brakes are worked hard. Overtaking is next to impossible so qualifying in Monaco is more critical than at any other Grand Prix.

The Portier corner is key to achieving a good lap time around Monaco. It is preceded by the Loews hairpin, the slowest corner in Formula One, and followed by the tunnel, one of the few flat-out sections of the track. Some great names have ended their races in the barriers here, most notably Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

To win in Monaco places a driver’s name on a list that includes many of history’s all-time greats.

Both Graham Hill, the man nicknamed ‘Mr Monaco’, and Schumacher have won it five times, Alain Prost took four victories, whilst Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart each won here three times. But the record of wins in the Principality resides with the Senna, who won in Monte Carlo six times.

The race has been a regular fixture of the world championship since 1955, but in that time the circuit has changed remarkably little. Slight alterations were made for the 2003 event, in particular a new, gentler entry to the Rascasse corner, with even bigger changes in 2004, with a new pit complex and increased spectator capacity.

DRIVERS: 1 – Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), 2 – Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), 3 – Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

Equipped with the 573 PS AM28 6.0-litre V12 engine, featuring latest generation engine management, the car is capable of reaching 205 mph making it, also, the fastest sports car to wear the iconic Aston Martin wings – One-77 excepted.

With 620 Nm of torque available at 5,750 rpm the V12 Vantage S is as flexible as it is powerful. Low rev torque – measured at just 1,000 rpm – stands at 510 Nm and, driving the rear wheels through the new Sportshift™III AMT (automated manual transmission) ensures the car boasts true sporting driveability.

Nuanced, as well as potent, the car includes technology which allows its driver to accurately tune its ride and handling. Three-stage adaptive damping means the driver can more precisely tailor the car’s dynamic character and exploit its clear performance potential. ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ modes provide a broad swathe of dynamic capability, while the system also governs the level of power steering assistance offered.

Working alongside the extended adaptive damping system is a ‘Sport’ mode, controlled via a button on the centre console, which alters throttle response, gearshift speed and timing, and exhaust note to, once again, tune the character of the car to the driver’s requirements.

The ZF-Servotronic™power assisted steering boasts a quicker 15:1 ratio, in line with the car’s sporting pedigree, linked to the adaptive damping button. It offers two-mode steering assistance designed to best match the ‘Sport’ or ‘Normal’ settings generated by the Adaptive Damping System.

Fronting a new seven-car display led by CEO Dr Andy Palmer, the Aston Martin Vulcan will be joined by examples from the current Aston Martin product range in North America including the new Vanquish Carbon, Rapide S, DB9, V12 Vantage S and the V8 Vantage GT Roadster.

Aston Martin’s ‘Second Century’ plan was detailed at the Geneva Motor Show by Dr Palmer after completion of his first 150 days as CEO of Aston Martin. A comprehensive strategy for the ongoing growth and development of the 102-year old sport car maker, the plan laid out the principle mid-term actions, particularly in the area of new product development that will drive the growth of the company.
